I thought ‘I don’t like Mondays’ by The Boomtown Rats is the perfect choice for today. The song was released in 1979 and was inspired by Brenda Ann Spencer, a 16-year-old who went on a gun shooting spree killing two and injuring many.

The song was written and performed by Bob Geldof, who is best known today for his charity work, including concerts Live Aid and Live 8.

After mentioning the classic video of Bob Dylan’s ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’ yesterday, I thought I’d might as well dig it out.

The video itself was originally the first part of a documentary called ‘Dont Look Back’, which in 1965 filmed the singer’s first tour of England.

The song is described as ‘emocore’ aka ‘emotional hardcore’, which is something I’ve not heard of before. Regardless, it’s a pretty good video, so check it out.
